I have been away from this page for almost three months. I want to share with you the reason why.
I have been telling people to resign: their jobs, their unresolved relationships, their constant dramas, the stagnation in their lives. I’ve urged them to RESIGN TODAY.
Unfortunately, not everyone is ready for this message. And that is fine.
We are not everyone alike. Besides, you might not be ready for this message TODAY, but you might be ready for it soon.
I got serious critique from a reader who told me I should not be telling people to leave the safety of their jobs.
“What other solution was I offering?”, he asked me.
“Is it your intention to see everybody unemployed and living on benefits?”
“How dare you tell people to RESIGN TODAY in times like these?”, he insisted.
I listened patiently to all his questions and they confused me at the time.
I can understand his criticism very well now, but I couldn’t understand it then. At that time his questions unbalanced me. It made me question the message. Was I causing more harm than good?
The truth is this: “When you jump out of the boat you rock the boat”
No everyone is happy when you announce you are fighting to leave the rat race. It rocks their boat, it makes question their own life.
Days ago I found out that the reader who questioned my message doesn’t have a job!!!
Tadaaaaa!
You read it well: he is self-employed! He is his own boss and he has been his own boss for a long time now. He has quit his job; he has renounced the “stability” that he finds so important for other people. That he clearly didn’t want for others the freedom that he enjoys is something that surprised me very much.
Like I said, I think I understand his anger now. My best guess is that he was afraid of others choosing to be free, just like him.
Afraid others might succeed,
because then he will have no excuses to fail. He
will have to work harder at his own projects.
Afraid others might fail because then he would be forced to doubt his victory too. And that is terrifying.
But what you have to remember is this: FEARS COME FROM THE PAST. They are a heavy luggage we carry all the time.
So what you have to do is TRAVEL LIGHT.
Yesterday I heard an old lady say she spent most of her life “walking backwards in the direction of the future”. I found that a very interesting saying, an eye-opener. Most of us do the same: while trying to reach that place of freedom and fulfillment in the future, we still keep our fears stuffed inside our pockets. We keep looking to that place in the past where things went wrong. Though we are moving towards the future, we have our eyes fixed at those things that we just couldn’t do well.
And what happens when one walks backwards? He stumbles, he falls.
Trust the present moment. Listen to yourself, you know it better. That voice inside

your heart knows it better.
I will keep telling you to RESIGN TODAY:
RESIGN that job inside your heart until one day will finally not need that paycheck anymore and you will truly
quit your job.
RESIGN that relationship so you can be free for someone better to find you. Love is not supposed to hurt.
RESIGN stagnation. If you don’t do a thing about your dream, do not expect things to change.

Aw, this was a really nice post. Finding the time and actual
effort to generate a good article… but what can I say… I
put things off a lot and don’t seem to get anything
done.
